ND100X WASM Emulator

Machine Setup

Machine

Built-in demo machine: read-only. Clone it to make a machine you can change.

New Machine

Name Type

Edit controllers, CPU type, terminals and boot device. Validate uses the same parser as the native binary. Download a .ini to run the same machine with nd100x. The selected machine is the one the emulator starts.

Emulator

Keyboard

Standalone ND-500, running NDIX. Boots straight off the root disc - no kernel to choose. The root disc is either the server's own NDIX image (downloaded at power-on, like the ND-100's demo SMD pack) or one tagged ND-500 / NDIX root in the local disk library.

Root disc

Image

Writable

NDIX writes to its root disc as it runs. The disc is loaded into memory for the session and nothing is written back to the server or the library, so leave this on; untick it only to run the disc read-only.

Welcome to nd100x

Norsk Data ND-100 and ND-500 computers, emulated in the browser

1. Start a machine

Pick a machine in the Machine dropdown, left of the Power button in the toolbar.
Press Power. The machine boots from its own disk - nothing else to choose.
Type in the Console window. The cards below say what each machine shows and how to log in.
Disks are in memory only, so changes vanish until you configure persistent storage (Config > Persistent disk storage).

2. The View menu

Machine Setup - the machine's controllers, disks, boot drive and terminal type; built-in machines are read-only, clone one to change it.
HDD Disk Manager / Floppy Library - disk images: the server's catalog, a local library in the browser (Config > Persistent disk storage), floppies from the Norsk Data software archive.
Config - background execution, persistent storage, the WebSocket gateway, printer.
Terminals - a window per terminal; pop any of them out into its own browser window.
Machine Info, CPU Load, Printer, Paper Tape - what the hardware is doing.
Debugger, Disassembly, Breakpoints - the CPU debugger: registers, memory, breakpoints, instruction trace.

3. The Help menu

Welcome - this window, any time.
Machines - a page per machine: what it is, how to use it, its history.
SINTRAN Help - the searchable SINTRAN III command reference.
Håndbok and System Supervisor - the original Norsk Data manuals (PDF).
About - version and source code.

4. The SINTRAN menu

Appears in the toolbar only once SINTRAN III is detected running on the ND-100. It reads the live operating system out of memory:

System Information - the SINTRAN version, generation and configuration.
RT Descriptions, Queue Viewer, Reentrant Programs - the running programs, their queues and shared segments.
Segment Table, Page Tables - memory as SINTRAN manages it.
I/O Devices - the device datafields, terminal by terminal.
Initial Commands - the commands SINTRAN runs at start-up.
Browse Disk (NDFS) - the SINTRAN file system on the booted disk, with a file viewer.
Dump Memory - a raw memory dump.

HDD Disk Manager

Persistent disk storage is off (Config > Emulation; it needs Background execution). Without it there is no local disk library and images cannot be copied in here; the server catalog is still shown. Drives are given their images in Machine Setup.

Local Disk Library

Local Disk Library (SCSI)

Only images tagged as SCSI (hdd) can be assigned to SCSI IDs.

Local Disk Library (Winchester)

Only images tagged as Winchester can be assigned to a Winchester unit.

NDIX Root Discs

Root discs for a standalone ND-500 running NDIX. Choose one in Machine Setup > (an ND-500 NDIX machine) > Root disc.

Local Disk Library (NDIX)

No NDIX root discs in the library.

CDC Cartridge Discs

CDC 9427 cartridge discs for NORD TSS (4 MB images). The disc carries the TSS file system, so there is no NDFS view.

Local Disk Library (CDC)

No CDC cartridge discs in the library.
